ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) government has spent the funds – approximately Rs 5.40 billion – in other development projects, which were allocated only for the construction of Bhasha Dam.
Sources told Online that WAPDA’s Finance department’s general manager provided the funds for the construction of Neelum Jhelum Hydro Project while taking the Planning Wing into confidence. The Gilgit-Baltistan government has also protested against the federal government in this regard.
“With the completion of Diamir Bhasha Dam at least 54,000 Megawatts electricity would be generated, while total cost of this project is approximately $14 million,” sources said.
The sources maintained that Agha Khan Foundation has also promised to provide funds for the project and further said that the PML-N government is giving priority to generate electricity through power projects run by coal and gas as compared to hydro power projects which generate electricity at low rates.
