ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has denied the rumours of Pakistan being put on the United Nations’ (UN) Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey-list after sections of international media claimed that a decision had been reached by FATF to this effect.
Pakistan FO spokesperson said that Pakistan’s nomination for the list had been forwarded by United States and Britain in January but Pakistan had already taken drastic measures to alleviate the concerns raised by the US.
FATF spokesperson also made it clear that the decision had not yet been reached and a final decision will only be announced after the meeting reviewing the matter came to conclusion, which it hadn’t as yet.
Pakistan Foreign Minister had claimed on Thursday that the problem had been averted with the help of China, Turkey and Saudi Arabia votes, marring the consensus on the issue.
However, Indian media now claims that China has withdrawn its objection to the nomination, allowing the consensus to go through with it.
Earlier, US had termed Asif’s claim as ‘premature’ since the decision was yet to be made.
