ISLAMABAD: Considering training an important aspect in capacity building, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) plans to establish its own training academy in Islamabad, said Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, chairman of the bureau, on Friday.
“We plan to have our own training academy on pattern of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy in order to meet training requirements of all ranks of (NAB) officers/officials on modern lines with the state-of-the-art techniques and technology,” he said this while chairing a meeting here to review training of trainers (TOT), refresher and capacity building courses for the officers.
A Digital Forensic Science Laboratory has been established in NAB Rawalpindi which has capacity to have digital forensics, question documents and finger prints analysis to help investigate cases within stipulated time period. Qamar said that NAB as an apex anti-corruption institution requires an extremely dedicated and highly trained manpower to assign gigantic task of eradicating corruption.
He said that the bureau attaches great importance to its human resource development and accordingly, a comprehensive yearly training plan has been devised to ensure continued professional development of its officers/officials and prosecutors. In order to ensure successful implementation of the training plan, it is equally important that trainers are fully capable and geared up to undertake this responsibility, he said.
He said that the training cells created at all regional levels were primarily responsible to liaise and carry out planned activities in their respective regional bureaus. Therefore, the training programme – based on regional feedback and input of experts from other law enforcing agencies – at the NAB Headquarters was organised by T&R Division. He said that the plan was then discussed and refined at the highest level in NAB.
Qamar said that the course contents have been revised and improved and the refresher courses have been planned for two weeks on part time basis to ensure 100% participation and to minimise disturbance in routine activities of investigation officers. NAB has planned six capacity building courses, six staff development courses, IT training and understanding of monitoring and evaluation system.
He said that 104 investigation officers have been trained at the Police Training College in Sihala. The course contents had been designed on modern lines and a standardised syllabus for all investigation officers for their capacity building courses had been formulated to ensure quality and uniformity.
